Penny Drew is a licensed music educator and performing artist. She received her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University and Masters of Arts in Performance and Pedagogy from Meredith College in North Carolina, where she received scholarships for International Music Camps at UNC-Chapel Hill and at Escola de Beausobre in Morges, Switzerland. Ms. Drew studied viola with Hart Hollman, Earl Sanders, and Dr. Ervin Schiffer and jazz with Anderson White and Elmer Gibson. She has taught and developed youth programs in Wilson and Raleigh NC, Richmond and Petersburg VA. She has served as faculty with several music camps at Meredith College, Barton College, Summer Strings at Wesleyan College in Rocky Mt. NC, VCU Summer Strings in Richmond, VA and Richmond Boys Choir & String Improvisation Summer Camp. Ms. Drew has performed with the Petersburg, Raleigh, Durham, Long Bay (Myrtle Beach), Fayetteville and Detroit Metropolitan Symphony Orchestras, Duke Opera Company and the Durham Savoyards. Recent performances include String Improv N Me, PDQ a collaboration with the Richmond Boys Choir and Penny Drew and UBU, jazz ensemble in the Greater Richmond area. Ms. Drew is a member of the American String Teachers Association, Midwest Clinic and Jazz Educators Network.
